Sunk by Collier off Highland Light in dense fog

In heavy fog the four mast collier J Holmes Birdsall of Philadelphia collided with the two mast fishing schooner Nellie G Adams of Provincetown about 65 miles southeast of Highland Light. Adams sank in five minutes with only Captain John G Silva and Cook Manual Costa aboard. Coast guard and locals rescued all Adams crew. Birdsall towed to Boston by tug Confidence with rigging damaged. Captain Silva later recounted his escape from death.

Tragic Nova Scotia case grips Digby County town

In Plympton Nova Scotia urgent searchers combed woods for two missing children after a break in at a neighbor’s home. A 18 month old girl Elma was found bound and gagged in a thicket and later May a 6 year old girl’s body was found nearby. Coroner Elderkin and Crown Prosecutor Dennison led an inquest as Boston lawyer George Young and caregiver Hope Young are held for questioning.

Effie Field jumps from burning car in Cambridge crash

Mrs Effie Field of 27 Rockingham Street Cambridge leaped from a motor car then burning after a leak caused gasoline ignition. Husband Walter Field stopped the vehicle and alerted the fire department. The car was destroyed while Mrs Field was taken home for treatment. Accident occurred at Commonwealth Avenue and Exeter Street.
