Parades and Pageant Satires Stir Crowds in Yesterday’s Show

The Corkscrew Brigade won laughs as floats mocked empire and wealth. Bandits of bankers stretched their reach with elastic arms while Uncle Sam’s Kindergarten and a model Olympia drew cheers. Dewey’s Manila pills appeared as 13 inch walking projectiles, and The True Blues from Lynn closed the division.

Carnival Parade Completes Historic Charlestown Run

The 17th of June Carnival Parade winds through Charlestown with Chief Marshal Harding as Columbus, diverse clubs and veterans in line, Admiral Dewey and Union Jacks featured, and a grand luncheon to end the day. Officials discussed Colonel Thomas health and postmaster matters while crowds enjoyed bands, costumes, and social club hospitality.

Charlestown Civil and Military Parade Draws Thousands

Charlestown held an afternoon parade witnessed by thousands along a long city route. Chief Marshal Sawyer led divisions with smooth marching, while Frank J. Dunn commanded the letter carriers in gray summer uniforms. Delegations from Newton Fall River and Lynn joined participants from many cities. the parade spanned about three hours and ended near 6 pm.

Letter Carriers Hold Reception After City Parade

About 400 letter carriers attended a reception at Monument Hall in Charlestown after the afternoon parade. They greeted officials including Acting Postmaster Henderson General Curtis Guild Jr Congressman Roberts and several postmasters and superintendents. Frank J. Dunn presided at a luncheon and after dinner remarks followed, though details were informal.

Bunker Hill Chapter Celebrates Patriotism at Memorial Hall

Memorial Hall in Charlestown crowded as Bunker Hill Chapter D R members and friends gathered to honor the Revolution. Regent Mrs A Lincoln Bowles presided while letters of regret from notable figures were read. Helen Stone Rogers presented a historic gavel to Mr Robinson, who thanked the chapter. General Guild gave the featured speech on Little Courtesies of Patriotism.

Charlestown Police Detail for Bunker Hill Day Parade

Charlestown police mobilized about 500 officers for the Bunker Hill Day celebration, with 460 from city stations. The detail included 12 inspectors from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, 19 mounted officers, and personnel from Stations 1 through 4 to keep order as thousands gathered for the parades.

The United States gunboat Marietta arrived in port at 11 30 a m and anchored off the navy yard. The Catalonia and Derbyshire with merchandise and passengers followed, arriving June 6 viaQueenstown and Liverpool respectively, carrying 23 saloon and 171 steerage passengers to Richards Mills Co and Alexander Martin.
