Duxbury 250th Anniversary Celebrated With Pageantry
A June 17 event in Duxbury marks 250 years since the town’s settlement. Citizens and visitors filled the town with flags and cannon salutes as a Grand Army review and a procession to a speakers’ tent welcomed Governor Ames and prominent guests. Justin Winsor, Harvard librarian and Duxbury historian, traced Pilgrim leaders and early settlers, highlighting Miles Standish, William Brewster, Edward Winslow, John Alden, and others who shaped the colony, amid reflections on Bradford’s warnings and the evolving Puritan community.
