Cascaco June 16. McGeoch Everingham & Co failed in a massive lard corner shaking markets. The firm expected $500,000 in margins and loans but could not pay creditors. Lard fell from 1065 to 9. July at 9 75, August 9 90. Total losses around $4,000,000 with several firms suspended. Prices and panic spread to New York Boston and Chicago as traders faced heavy gains and losses.

In Providence Rhode Island June 17 the funeral of Rev Charles T Brooks was held at Channing Memorial Church in Newport. The edifice was heavily draped and the services featured hymns written by Brooks and tributes from Gov C C Van Zandt and other notable figures including letters from Julia Ward Howe and Oliver Wendell Holmes. The procession concluded with burial at the cemetery as crowds viewed the remains.

Newport reports say Rev J C Hewlett rector of Zion church in Newport closed his connection Sunday evening. Two men Collins and Williams are under arrest in New Haven for stealing the sailboat Truant valued at 500 dollars. they will be brought to Newport. In Newport William F Eastman stabbed Shea with shears. wound minor, Eastman intoxicated and held in jail. Delia Flaherty and Mary E McCoy before Providence court for stealing two baby carriages. Delia guilty and sentenced to reform school. Mary not guilty and to be tried Tuesday.

Quincy Kenns of Ashby Massachusetts, about sixty, committed suicide by hanging Friday with despondency over property loss cited as cause.
