In Barrington on June 16 a monument of dark Quincy granite will be dedicated by Salisbury Connecticut to honor its soldier dead. The structure includes a seven by six base, two-foot-high bases, em... white text continues describing quarry faces, bas-reliefs, and steps, topped by a six and a half foot bronze Liberty figure. Cost is listed as 4100 dollars with Dederick & Field Quincy as granite work designers.

Rio de Janeiro June 16. President Da Fonseca opened Parliament with an optimistic speech praising peaceful country conditions and good relations with foreign powers. He reported rising revenue and expressed hope to balance the budget without new taxes on the people.
British Consul Odessa dispatch to Lord Salisbury denies reports of a Russian Jewish exodus to England. He notes many inquiries from Jews wishing to emigrate to America, but agencies report little business with the bulk of emigrants going toward Constantinople.

Ottawa June 16 reports dispel talk of a cabinet crisis. Governor General asked Sir John Thompson for advice on forming a new government. On Thompson's advice Abbott is authorized to retain his role, while the Railway Department is assigned to another cabinet member.
At a Gloucester Common Council meeting the minority report defending Alderman Donahue’s charges against William A. Pew Jr. was discussed. Councilman Douglass confronted Donahue, while Ireland defended the minority stance and Blatchford attacked Donahue as a wind bag. the majority report was adopted 10 to 1.
