The Hon. Benjamin F. Martin, a wealthy Manchester resident and former legislator, died at his home aged 75 from liver disease. A Peacham Vermont native, he built a paper mill in Amoskeag after moving to Manchester in 1853 and retired in 1874. He led rail, banking, and gas ventures, was a colonel on Governor Gilmore's staff, and attended the 1860 Republican convention. He is survived by wife Mary Ann Rice and daughter Mrs. George B. Chandler.
