Steamer Wilkes Barre Nerve Saves Harbor Collision
Captain Cates of the Wilkes Barre showed rare tact steering past Long Wharf when Union crossed her bow. He ordered engines stopped then full speed astern and wheel, narrowly clearing the sloop.
