Fire at Bay Line warehouse at Union dock in Bartimone Maryland destroys the four mast schooner Augustus Wirt and endangers the steamer Carolina. Between 500 and 1000 bales of cotton and large amounts of resin and molasses fueled the blaze. Wirt, built 1889 in Waldoboro Maine, valued at 25 000 dollars, arrived from Bath with 1281 tons of Maine ice. about 200 tons unloaded. Ice held at four dollars a ton. total loss estimated at 500 000 dollars.

Terrific hail storm hits Greenfield causing $10000 damage
A sudden hail storm at 5 15 p m from the west battered Greenfield for under five minutes. Most west windows shattered with many panes lost at Holy Trinity Church totaling about 1000. Cutler Lyons Field and Nichols Bros Towle each lost about 500 panes. Stones measured ten inches in circumference and several inches in diameter. Trees stripped of leaves and twigs, looking trimmed.
