Senate Rejects Reconsideration On Liquor Damage Bill Review

The Senate voted 15 to 17 to not reconsider the referral of the liquor damage bill to the judiciary committee. The claims committee reported a $125 grant for 31 reenlisted soldiers of the 26th Massachusetts in 1863. Amendments to the milk inspection bill were printed and the bill postponed for today. The act raises penalties for adulterated milk and sets quality standards, with adjustments to monthly payments and enforcement. An insane persons commitment bill was engrossed after Kendricken amended it. The prisons reform bill proposed to abolish convict labor and reorganize prison industries under a general superintendent with wide oversight and funding rules. Miliken proposed amendments on imitation butter inspection, while Gleason and Forbes questioned practical enforceability. Morse urged passage with a single section removal and a 30 day notice.
