The funeral for John J. Toomey former chairman of the Board of Election Commissioners and longtime Boston Globe associate was held at St. Eulalia's Church South Boston. A high mass was led by Rev Father Twomey with burial in St Joseph's Cemetery West Roxbury. Mrs. Virginia Leff, 24, of Dorchester, was found nearly unconscious in a Franklin Field stable yesterday afternoon. Washington June 14 The Senate agricultural committee reconsidered a favorable report on Senator Jones Washington proposal for national prohibition during the war and decided to hold hearings on the amendment The committee sustained its earlier action removing the Randall prohibition amendment from the emergency agricultural appropriation bill
Senator Smith acting chairman announced committee hearings open next Monday and run to Wednesday to decide action on the Jones amendment forbidding grain use in malt or vinous liquor during the war. Some members fear unconstitutionality. If rejected Senator Norris plans a substitute.
