In Justice Woodman's court, bailiff Barry Murphy grew noisy and refused to heed the magistrate. The judge jumped from the seat and delivered a severe beating to the insolent constable, then returned to dispensing justice.

A severe wind storm damaged buildings in Valley Falls Kansas on Monday night. Reports from many places include a Baptist church expulsion for immorality in Cornellsyde Pennsylvania, a tragic vulcanizer explosion in Trenton New Jersey killing two and tearing apart workers, and a tornado in Chillicothe Missouri causing major destruction. Other items note a $30,000 liability for Cincinnati Shoe Manufacturing Company, a grand lodge election in New Jersey, endowment gifts to Rensselaer Institute, a tugboat explosion in Buenos Aires with deaths and injuries, Mexican troop deployments to lower California diggings, a fraud arrest in Reading Pennsylvania, and frontier fishing and flood concerns in British Columbia.
Uniontown scene recounts the 1882 murder of N L Dukes by Capt A C Nutt after a contested affair with Nutt’s daughter. Dukes fled a not guilty verdict, sparking lynching threats and his political resignation. later James Nutt killed Dukes in self defense.

Brief telegraph reports from Springfield, Sauk Centre, Portsmouth, Worcester note further fires and losses, including a Templeton Centre property loss of $2,000 and a flouring mill and elevator fire at Sauk Centre with $90,000 damage.
At Charter Oak Park Hartford on June 13 crowds saw favorites Dan Smith and Backman Maid defeated in the 2:22 and 2:27 classes. First race results list John A. Goldsmith Francisco and James Golden Medford as leading drivers, with times around 2:22. Second race for 2:27 class favored Backman Maid but finished behind Earl and Onward driven by George W. Miller and P. R. Gurney. time 2:26. Tomorrow’s program includes 2:20 and 2:32 classes.
The Ohio Greenback labor party state convention met in Columbus with about 40 delegates. The platform calls for railroad rate reductions, land rights, currency-linked prices, temperance reform, and abolition of the convict contract system. Ticket nominees include Charles Jenkins for governor and Wm Baker for lieutenant governor among others.

Lathrop testified on confinement of a demented patient, hospital provisions, staff changes, and interactions with trustees. The executive council rejected Edward Hamilton for the state board of health lunacy and charity, while nominating others and hearing opposition to convict labor.

Small burglaries occurred this week in West Canaan and Dover. William J. Folsom, 19, of Salisbury, drowned bathing in the Merrimac river three miles below Manchester. Jackson captured a large fat bear and sent it to Portland, Maine. N. W. Burke of Nashua died sunstruck while hoeing in his field. A. G. Haley of Salmon Falls arrested for blackmailing Charles E. Bartlett. Robinson Seminary held its 14th annual commencement at Exeter with a large attendance. Frank Ham sustained severe injuries jumping from a train at Barrington station, likely fatal. Salmon Falls endured the severest rain and wind storm yet, with a large barn damaged and telegraph lines down cutting west communications.
The 93d annual Vermont diocese convention met in St. Albans for a three day session with Bishop Bissell and many clergymen present. An 11 year old girl from Winooski drowned in the Winooski river while picnicking nearby. Officers and trustees were elected at sessions in St. Albans including T H Canfield secretary and E L Temple treasurer. Masonic gatherings continued in Burlington with large attendance. Vermont council of deliberation elected George O Tyler commander in chief and Sayles Nichols and Howard Kill as lieutenant commanders. The Knights Templar grand commandery elected Alfred A Hall grand commander and other officers. public exercises accompanied the procession.
