On a Saturday voyage from Blue Water Pavonia passengers and Post reporters used carrier pigeons to send messages home. A 20 year old hack driver, George Scannell, wrestled a mad dog from a crowd on Hammond street near Tremont yesterday afternoon. He held the animal at bay, then squeezed its throat with a knee and hand, killing it after about twenty minutes. The dog’s owner and police response drew criticism as residents feared further danger and waited for medical care for injuries to Scannell.

Charles Tyler a 17 year old known as Jesse Pomeroy No 2 faces a ten year sentence at hard labor in Cambridge for train wrecking. Fitchburg railroad officials pressed for maximum punishment after Tyler’s second attempt. Police and railroad staff arrested him last February after a Lincoln search. Read of his past crimes include December 1889 wreck attempt near Lincoln, safe blowing at Lake Walden, Lake Walden hotel break in January, February wreck near Codman Bridge, robbery of a mileage book, assault on his mother, and a barn fire harming horses and cattle.

Cornell University junior student, a popular member from Cleveland, Ohio, died by drowning in Irkaca New York. The incident has plunged the junior class into grief as officials notify parents and begin inquiries into the accident.

John Redmond M P from Waterford arrived on the Etruria and was detained at quarantine overnight. A reception committee escorted him to the Hoffman House where he will stay in New York. He said his aim is reunion and union independent of English parties, but he will avoid Irish matters until after the Academy of Music meeting next Wednesday.

Police from Station 4 visited the Chinese occupants of Nos. 11 and 40 Harrison avenue on a Sunday. No game was ongoing when they arrived, but officers seized a bundle of gambling implements and twenty five Chinese men were taken into custody.
Joan Cavanagh aged 20 of Irving Street East Fourth Street South Boston was overcome by intense heat around 3 45 p m yesterday while walking with friends. She was cared for by companions and later taken home.
