Repeaters Arrested For Pure Ballot At Ward 19 Caucus

Two of four alleged repeaters were arrested at the Democratic Ward 19 caucus on May 28. Walter A. Fay and Thomas H. Lynch appeared in Roxbury District Court. Joseph P. Tynan and Thomas Flannagan did not. Fay’s address was given as 296 Roxbury Street. Judge Bolster fined each $50 and sentenced them to two months in the House of Correction, with appeals bond set at $500.

Alderman Donovan Talks on New Southie Ferry Plan

Open Vatican manuscript theft shocks Vatican history tale

In New York on June 10 a veteran Italian priest, Monsignor Antonio Conte Renier, accuses Carlo Motta of stealing part of a manuscript titled Open Vatican, twelve silver coffee cups, and a pair of gold earrings. Motta admits guilt, says he handed the manuscript to Francesco Beraigua of Brooklyn who denies involvement. The priest valued the manuscript at 25000 dollars and warns the work would cause consternation in church circles.

Wetherell Sloop Sunk After Collision With Steamer Crotia

In fog off Newfoundland the schooner Maud B. Wetherell from Portland was cut in two by the steamer Crotia at 6:10 am. All crew escaped to the steamer, two wet. The wreck happened after a five week mackerel voyage carrying 286 barrels home to Portland. Captain Borden of the Crotia backed engines to ease the crash. Seventeen men, all saved with only their clothes, were aboard.

Missing Bride Found In Attleboro Farm Work

Eva Hackett, sought as a missing bride and widow, is employed by Dr. J M Solomon on a farm in Attleboro and matches the description of her father-in-law. She says she kept a Boston lodging house at 269 Columbus Avenue and that her husband’s father visited the house while the son was hospitalized. She claims a prior Boston marriage but cannot name the officiant or place. Mr Stockhouse has been summoned.

Chapter of Accidents In City Street Work Falls and Injures Three

Cornelius Shea, 62, a carpenter at 5 Hamburg Street South End, fell 25 feet from a shed yard, breaking a shoulder and being hospitalized at City Hospital. he lives at 80 Dover Street. Michael Casole, 63 Endicott Street, working on a new building opposite King’s Chapel, fell 15 feet into a cellar and struck his head. Andrew Ahearn, a driver on a city ash cart, fell from his team at Bunker Hill and Mystic Streets in Charlestown and suffered serious injuries to head and body.

Inquest Finds Pennyroyal Toll in Boyd Death at Seabrook

Amesbury June 11 The coroner's inquest into John N Boyd's death at Seabrook ended with a verdict of accidental death. Chemist Castelhoun noted pennyroyal in the stomach and inflammation. Medical Examiner Hurd said heart lungs and kidneys showed signs of intoxicant use. no liquor had been consumed for hours. His wife found him dead at five AM after a neighbor heard groans at 2:30.

Good police work on string of downtown robberies

Patrick E Crowley of 8 Harrison Avenue was overhauled by Patrolman Leavett on Kneeland Street early yesterday morning. He was found with clothing and later linked to break ins at Andrew Harr 91 Tyler Street and possessions taken including cash watches and a pocketbook. Michael O Donnell of 76 Gold Street South Boston was arrested on a similar charge. John Brennan and Timothy Sweeney items were reported stolen. Broadway Shoe Company at 50 Broadway was robbed and a laborer reported seeing five or six men flee toward Broadway extension.

Salem June 11. Fred Robinson six years old, son of Thomas S. Robinson of Swampscott Road, left home to attend school yesterday morning and has not been seen since. Father and neighbors searched nearby woods for him.
