Off duty officer shot by crowd cites self defense in East Boston
Patrolman John J. Coughlin of Station 7 East Boston shot at assailants while arresting Patrick Welch on Bremen Street. Edward Winn 28 of 240 Paris Street was struck by the bullet in the cheek near the ear but survived. John J. Ryan 25 of Paris Street and Martin Norton 22 of Marion and Havre streets were later arrested for assaulting an officer and aiding a prisoner. Norton and Ryan to be arraigned. Winn under medical care.

Three men hanged after Bryan jail escape mob
Louis Whitehead George Johnson and Jim Reddick, three Black men, were taken from Bryan jail by about 300 men from Kurten and hanged. Whitehead and Johnson faced an assault charge on Dr. Wilson's 12 year old daughter, while Reddick, already sentenced for assault on an Italian girl, had his sentence reversed. The sheriff was absent and the jailer refused keys as doors were battered down and a large fire lit the scene.

Runaway Horse Causes East Boston Carriage Crash
In East Boston around 7 15 p m Dr A J Bulger of 312 Meridian street drove along Bennington street when his horse frightened ran away. He was thrown from the turnout and the horse wrecked a buggy injuring Mrs Chase of 61 Gladstone street who was seated in the carriage. Mrs Chase sustained slight injuries to back and legs and was taken home by friends. Dr Bulger escaped with a slight shaking up.
