President Taft awarded gold medals from the Aero Club of America to Wilbur and Orville Wright in Washington. The ceremony honored their conquest of flight with statesmen, diplomats, Cabinet members, scientists, and aeronauts in attendance. Continued on Page 2-Fourth Column.
The Antonio Lopez with 526 passengers was taken off a wrecked steamer off Fire Island in fog. Cabin passengers 102 went ashore, steerage moved to Ellis Island. Wreckers strive to free the 430 foot steel ship as crews stand by for rescue if wind shifts. The transfer included 300 Americans returning from Spain and Manila government staff. The ship, 4519 net tons, grounded at 9:30 p.m.
The Michigan, after a four hour test from Rockland Me, reportedly surpassed records in a 24 hour endurance voyage from Rockland to the New Jersey coast, with engines running smoothly enough to skip anchoring at Boston Light.
Naval experts say only the fog can stop the Michigan from breaking speed records in the second test. From Boston Light the ship powers toward Jersey as officers vow to keep full steam ahead until dawn.
In Erie Pennsylvania on June 10 a clash broke out as about a dozen non union seamen were taken to boats. Pickets for the union seamen allegedly attacked them causing a free for all before a revolver fired wounding spectator Frank Whipple in the right leg. Several others were slightly hurt as crowds of over 1000 watched.
Ten tons of sand caved in during sewer tunnel digging under Norfolk and Western tracks at Short and Main streets in Medfield. Italian worker Joseph Charly, 18, of Millis died instantly. Town Inspector Conlin of Foxboro and twenty Italian men narrowly escaped.

City Hall officials report that several department heads had begun appointing staff without mayoral approval. John H. Glover, a $900 a year appointee in statistics, had not received pay until Mayor Hibbard approved his position. Investigations followed, leading to reprimands and potential job and pay losses for others involved.
The funeral for Rev Edward Everett Hale will be held next Sunday at 2 PM at South Congregational Church corner of Newbury and Exeter. A simple Unitarian service with no eulogy will honor one of the nation’s noted clergymen after his death yesterday morning.
The Rev. Edward Cummings, pastor of South Congregational Church, will conduct the funeral for Dr. Hale, assisted by Rev. James DeNormandie of First Parish Unitarian Roxbury. Burial follows at Forest Hills cemetery. final minor arrangements will be settled today.
Rev Charles Ephraim Rich died in Oakland on the same day as Edward Everett Hale. Rich, born in Boston, had served as assistant pastor to Hale in his first church and later worked in San Francisco under Dr Starr King. He was a member of San Francisco's Vigilantes in early days.

Honolulu reports the death of Father Clement who arrived from France with Father Damien to work among Molokai lepers. He followed Damien who died years earlier from tuberculosis.
Three men forced entry to St Stephen's Church in Croghan causing Franciscan Brother to be stabbed in the arm. Other brothers intervened, scaring away the intruders and likely saving him from greater harm.
Bernard L. Tarbox a wealthy Boston businessman and Miss Gertrude Devine his stenographer who eloped last Thursday are staying at the Broczel Hotel in Buffalo. They plan to cross into Canada via Niagara Falls to avoid extradition on bigamy charges brought by Miss Devine’s father. Tarbox declined comment while Devine’s father tasked with pursuing them reached Rochester.
Katherine Clemmons Gould testified in New York on June 10 in her divorce suit against Howard Gould. She appeared frail and somber in mourning attire with pearls and a diamond purse, amid reports that Howard Gould spent significant sums on his wife.

The home of John E French at 26 Hillside Street Melrose hosted the June wedding of his son Alfred Howard French to Miss Helen Louise McKeen of Nashua New Hampshire. Rev. Charles H Stackpole officiated with J Howard French as best man and Jeanette P White as bridesmaid. The groom works for the Boston Journal and the bride is a Melrose Hospital Training School for Nurses graduate.
