Fire at St Luke's Sanitarium Leaves City in Mourning
Chicago June 9 Twelve men and one woman died and about 30 were injured when a fire destroyed the St Luke's Society sanitarium at Wabash avenue and Twenty first street. Alder man Kent, bound in a strait jacket, died of suffocation on the fifth floor. Dr William Bunker escaped through a window and was carried away unharmed but without clothing. Fire originated in the basement and spread via the elevator shaft as patients, many delirious or drug addicted, were unable to escape.
