Boston Defeated as St Louis Wins Series Opener Aflame

President Frank de Haas Robison of the St Louis Club welcomed Boston visitors after their defeat in the four game series here. St Louis built a large lead helped by an infield error by Bob Lowe and timely hitting from McGraw Donovan and Keister. Hughey and Cuppy combined to hold Boston to one run in the later innings as St Louis produced thirteen safe hits. Fred Tenney's sensational fielding save and Keister, Collins and Bennet leading Boston with stout batting could not overcome the early miscues and St Louis' strong pitching.
