Secretary Hoover was informed that retail prices of bituminous coal may climb up to 1.75 per ton due to mine price increases under recent agreements. Roderick Stephens led a National Retailers Merchants Association briefing with Hoover, stressing voluntary retailer cooperation to curb undue hikes amid the coal strike. Immediate rises were anticipated in New York Chicago and Maine northwest regions.

Harvard University officials recognized a "Jewish problem" and formed a committee from the faculties to study admission practices. No changes to current entrance requirements will be made this year. The committee will report after several months, with final action possible in 1923.

Miss Marjorie Mahoney a 22 year old Medford office worker for Blake Wright Co lost an envelope with 200 dollars on her way to work. A thief described as a 5 3 inch 140 pound man in a blue suit and straw hat snatched the money and fled toward South Street and Atlantic avenue as police began a search.
Major college baseball results show Holy Cross defeating Providence 15 to 0 and Syracuse shutting out Columbia 2 to 0 in six innings due to rain. Boxing highlights include Johnny Darcy defeating Wild Man Gould in Fall River and Bert Spencer KOing Frankie Pitcher in New York. In Plainfield Illinois a public Klan statement says fifteen hundred candidates were initiated early Sunday in a pasture near the town. The ceremony drew more than 30 000 Klansmen from 18 towns and cities as they arrived by their own autos from as far as 200 miles away, emphasizing secrecy and precision.
Anna T Steinauer, veteran supervisor of murals in dance halls and moving picture theatres in the Curley era, was rehired by the Mayor at 900 per year with a clerk rating in the licensing division Her duties include inspecting dance halls and movie houses to ensure children enter only during appropriate hours and to regulate youth conduct for welfare of minors.
New England sweltered as a heat wave claimed a death yesterday. The weather bureau warned only a few stray showers might offer relief, with temperatures near the hub’s warmest day and a mercury reading around 89.5 degrees anticipated to continue until rainfall breaks the spell.
John Licata confessed to beating painter William Owens to death in a Sheepshead Bay police cell after claiming Owens made too much noise. A bloodied milk bottle found by Lt. Downs supported the confession. Licata to be examined for sanity.

State Auditor Alonzo B Cook was refused entry at a banquet when a doorman asked for a ticket and blocked him saying he was "one of Robert's men." Cook, a member in good standing of Ancient and Honorable Order, was ejected and sought friends afterward. Continued on Page 28-Sixth Col.
