Explanations for Delays in Casualty Notices
Washington June 5. The Adjutant General's office explains delays in notifying relatives of soldiers wounded in France. General Pershing may withhold casualty lists until they have no value for the enemy. Telegrams reach relatives within 24 hours when possible, but published lists appear days later. Delays result from clerical errors name confirmation by cable incorrect addresses or family removals.
