Washington June 3 report to the Council of National Defense recommends legislation to provide allowances for dependents of enlisted army and navy members. The amount would depend on the number of dependents and follows a Chamber committee study at Secretary Baker's request.
London reports the King's birthday list for wartime service across fields. The new entries add three viscounts, five peers, twenty five barons, forty six knights and eight English and two Irish privy councillors alongside the premier's list.
The list names Earl of Rosebery and generals T H H Allenby and Sir Charles C Monro, with Field Marshal Viscount French made a knight of St Patrick. Mrs Celia Bernard of 17 Common Street sat on the edge of St James Church on Harrison Avenue for over two hours yesterday morning. She dangled her feet over the side and vowed to kill herself if rescuers or priests were allowed to intervene. Firemen from Ladder 17 and church officials reportedly tried to dissuade her without success.
A woman was spotted on a roof at 12:50 am and refused help to come down. By 10 o clock she slid down on her own without aid, ending the rooftop incident.
Haverhill June 3 Osecar Villeuve 28 of 299 River Street and Nestor Greenwood of 7 Pecker Street were seriously injured when their car struck a trolley pole on Seven Star Road Groveland. Both on Hale Hospital dangerous list Greenwood believed fatally hurt Villeuve with a broken leg and possible internal injuries. Two other young men in the car uninjured. they were returning from Plum Island.
Mrs. Agnes Rae 76 Stearn avenue Lawrence was killed instantly at 1 30 yesterday morning when the car she rode in with James R Ma honey of Haverhill and Thomas Mulvey of 344 Lawrence street Lawrence skidded and overturned while passing another car on North Main street near Martin's Pond North Reading.
Howard E. Stockbridge reports the loss of his 89 foot auxiliary knockabout sailing yacht Whileaway from its mooring off the City Point life saving station Thursday morning. The vessel features an eight foot beam and a Palmer engine.
The owner Mahoney was driving when the accident occurred. Mrs. Rae sustained a fractured skull and was dead when two men dragged her body from the wreck. Continued on Page 6-Fourth Col.
