The Mary E Fish recovered Captain Dodge and his crew from the George Kilburn after it began taking on water near Barnegat Light. The Kilburn carried 153 pieces of granite and 185 bales for upholstering, with the captain and wife and four children aboard. The Mary E Fish stood by, one crewman fell overboard but was saved. The Kilburn, built in 1854, lay wrecked on Long Beach, eight miles above Little Egg Harbor Inlet.
