Patrolmen clashed with guns and clubs as strikers and sympathizers fought on State street during a strike riot. A dozen laborers were beaten, four Hod Carriers union members were arrested, and several others were sought by police. Most rioters were Italian and African American.
Joseph Wakelin announced a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer of his 7-year-old daughter Loretta Winifred Wakelin of Melrose. Police report two neighborhood boys seen near the scene and under watch as arrests are expected soon. State and Melrose officers, led by Mayor Charles H. Adams, sweep New England for the suspects.
A reader found near the crime scene and evidence that cereal rather than sawdust was used to stifle the girl mark a day of sensational developments in one of the era's most atrocious murders.

Police say Grennan entered by a rear door at 871 Pleasant Street East Weymouth yesterday afternoon while Mrs. Henry G. Lombard was away. He grabbed a purse from a table but fled as she pursued. The purse dropped 200 feet from the house and Grennan was captured an hour later after a patrolcar chase.

Destroyers Tipperary Turbulent Fortune Sparrowhawk Ard ent and three others. Warspite and Marlborough also alleged losses by torpedo, British deny losses of dreadnoughts or light cruisers.
British statement cites heavy losses including one battle cruiser blown up or disabled and multiple ships sunk. Report mentions battleship Pommern 13000 tons cruisers Frauenlob Wiesbaden destroyers several missing. Indicates damage to Derfflinger or Lützow and other light cruisers.
Report from London June 2 states a major battle off Jutland ended with heavy British losses.
