Ives critiques Eldredge amendment on Grand Trunk bill
Mr Ives said the Eldredge amendment is impractical and would ruin Boston commerce if applied to railroads. He argued it would push business to Canadian ports while starving Boston, noting Canadian shippers do not seek reciprocal deals with the United States. He warned Grand Trunk must ship exports to Boston to secure westbound tonnage and avoid bottlenecks at Buffalo and Chicago.
