James A Herne Dies Famous Actor and Playwright

James A Herne, renowned actor and playwright, died in New York City at age 66 after eight weeks of illness including bronchitis and pneumonia. Born in Troy on February 1 1838 he rose from Adelphia Theatre beginnings to lead roles with Susan Denin and later wrote Sag Harbor his greatest success.

Girl's Papa Fires at Suitor Near Maryville

In St Joseph Missouri on June 2 Owen Logan a young Arkoenne stockman was shot fatally by Jesse Walker as he called on Miss Walker at her Maryville home. Logan died after Walker fired a shotgun at him at the gate. Walker surrendered and awaits jail. Logan is a nephew of Sheriff Collins.
