Edwards H. Goff, who died in New York, built a web of ventures led by the American Export & Trading Company. Brooklyn Bridge Toll-Free For Public From June First
New York reports that the Brooklyn Bridge footway tolls have ended effective June 1 following legislative action and governor approval. Trustees moved the date from July to June, dispensing six toll collectors and reducing ticket printing costs while raising concerns about policing and faster wear of planking. Historical notes recount ice bridges, early crossings, and a 1885 panic near the New York end that caused deaths and injuries.

It Didn’t Occur There in Rockland
The Lewiston Journal notes the tale of Alexander Salvini fighting a drunken bully in Rockland is fiction not borne out in Rockland. It casts doubt on the Boston gossip and suggests Salvini seek adventures elsewhere in New England or the West for dramatic cachet.
