Mazie Lynette, an acrobat known for slide for life acts at Norumbega Park, was suspended by her teeth fifty feet above the Charles River. A dramatic fall ended in a dangerous struggle before bystanders and rescuers pulled her from the water and saved her from drowning.
Reporter notes Lynette tests a wire slide spanning 1400 feet, causing a three minute hanging episode. A crowd gathers as emergency teams assist and declare the device safe. Investigators will inspect equipment before any future trials.
Four prisoners escaped from Newport county jail early today as Night Keeper Thomas L. Bain raised a curtain in the first floor cell room. The excursion steamer Rapids King with 400 passengers ran on the rocks in the La Chine rapids on the St. Lawrence River near Montreal. The vessel is badly damaged as officials rescue passengers by lifeboats, landing them on nearby Heron Island.

Roy Atkinson reports that Robert Gillis of Harvard received a Ford touring car as his prize for submitting the winning story in the Ford a Day contest titled Fair Exchange Is No Robbery. The town celebrates the award and Gillis’ good fortune.

In Nashua New Hampshire a calico pony riding in the back of a Nashua man’s car leaped over the front seat to escape car headlights. Washington July 30 148 railroad executives will meet in New York Tuesday to accept President Hardings peace plan for the rail strike under protest. The assurance reached here signals a formal acceptance while officials reserve objections.
Lieutenant Tracey Lyons of the aviation section U S A and Augustus Altemeyer Jr of Port Jervis were burned to death when their airplane crashed near Port Jervis. A broken propeller caused the fatal dive and a gasoline explosion ignited the fire.
Five passengers were trapped for half an hour beneath an overturned car on the Ossipee trail near Gorham. Three were critically injured while two bodies were found underneath as rescuers righted the heavy machine after the morning crash on an isolated spot.
