Hotel Proprietor Commits Wife Suspect Delusion Turns Insane

Daniel W. Pray, owner of the Lincoln House in Newburyport, attempted suicide twice, believing his wife unfaithful to a hotel boarder. He jumped from Shaw's Wharf and was rescued before being declared insane and committed to Danvers Insane Hospital. Mrs Pray denies the charges and will run the Lincoln House.

Street Car Rights And Commission Orders Impact September Start

The Board of Railroad Commissioners issued multiple orders to wind down operations by September first. It approved Lexington and Boston Street Railway usage on Main Street in Waltham and Webster crossing East Main Street with New York New Haven and Hartford tracks after overhead work on steam crossings is completed. The inquiry into the Webster and Dudley accident is postponed to September 10 due to motorman issues. Brockton Street Railway tracks extension also seeks authorization.

Returning Truths Mail Post Office Task Begun

Post office clerks began processing the Francis Truth mail held in the Boston office after a fraud order. Instructions from Washington require forwarding any mail with a return address to the sender. Unaddressed items go to the Washington De Letter Department to be opened and the contents returned in government envelopes.

Print contract bids opened for City Council official proceedings

The joint committee on printing opened proposals at the municipal printing plant for one year of official City Council proceedings. Only two bids were received from The Advertiser Company and The Travelers. The Advertiser's bid was favored, with Travelers quoting 10 dollars and past figures showing 8500 since the 1396 legal contract. Four years ago Travelers underbid Advertiser by 1000, but today Advertiser leads.

Probing Cause Of Death In Gloucester Man

Authorities investigate the death of John Sheehan whose body was found beside the street railway track between Gloucester and Rockport. The skull was crushed and clothing torn. Police theorize a car struck him though no streetcar line accidents were reported last night.
