An electric pageant of floats commemorating Boston events and seasonal flowers closed the first day of Old Home Week. The displays dimmed by the parade’s end as finishers moved to shut up the town.
A day of public events marks Homecoming with a parade of veteran firemen at 9 30 a m and playout on Common. Track games at Wood Island Park East Boston. Open houses and reunions across South Boston Dedham Roxbury Charlestown Jamaica Plain and more. A full schedule includes band concerts sports regattas receptions and a mass meeting for veterans.
Louis Jacot of Beachmont wins a 10 mile course from Charlestown Bridge to Boston Light amid 52 to 55 degree water. The race started at 2 12 p m and was halted at 7 25 p m after 5 hours 13 minutes in water with 3 swimmers remaining. Mahoney and Rhodes of Corps 35, V L S S placed second and third. Other notable finishers swam six miles or more through head wind and chop.
In a 10 mile Boston Harbor swim from Charlestown bridge to Boston light 27 starters failed to finish the full course. C. F. King trophy was awarded to the prize, and Mr. King said all who completed five miles will receive medals.

More than a score of passengers received slight injuries and a panic spread as southeast traffic halted.
Two streetcars, the Brookline and Meeting House Hill cars, collided on Roxbury street near Highland street. The motormen remained at their posts to shield passengers, taking the danger upon themselves after a switch fault caused the crash. An investigation will determine blame.
