Paris dispatch reports eight thousand navvies on strike with more to join. Twenty three of one hundred arrested are held for trial for rioting at Lavillette. Foreigners convicted face expulsion after punishment. Many rioters are Italians.
Randall and his family traveled to Wayne Pennsylvania for care. Dr. Mallan accompanied them, Dr. Martin will oversee the case. Randall rode President Roberts's private car to Wayne station and is cared for at Castanen by Mrs. Coxe with comfort items and care. He bore up well, rested, and remained cheerful at times amid travel. Doctors stated no public cancer verdict, Randall improving and hopeful as cooler weather nears.
The steamship Parthian, inbound from Philadelphia for Boston, collided with schooner Ayr near West Chop in Vineyard Sound. Parthian ran aground leaking badly but later moved to harbor, all 55 passengers safe and effects managed as tug Confidence assisted. Ayr suffered heavy damage to bow and rigging.
Banks in Winnipeg decide to discount American currency with a 3 percent rate on paper money. Silver dollars sell at 94 cents, 50-cent pieces at 40 cents, 26-cent pieces at 20 cents, while 10 and 5 cent coins carry no discount. The city is flooded with American money.

Lexton July 29 sixty two amendments have been proposed to the Parnell commission bill. Mr Parnell will move the first amendment to inquire into the Times letters. Mr Sexton will move to limit the inquiry to persons named in the schedule.
London July 29 Mr Chamberlain hosted a garden party for the Birmingham Unionist Council. He defended parliamentary progress, urged inquiry into the Parnell case, and said Ireland's condition has improved despite agitators. He warned of civil strife ahead of a Home Rule bill and expressed confidence in Unionist triumph.
Governor Long accepted the presidency of the upcoming Republican State convention in a letter to Chairman Burden. He noted pleasure at the compliment on the eve of retirement and said he would deliver a short speech at the gathering in the state capital.
Dustin July 29 The Mitchels town jury ruling on John Mandeville's death holds that his demise resulted from unjustifiable treatment during confinement in Tullamore prison. The inquest saw the coroner sum up evidence and condemn political prisoners being treated as ordinary criminals, with the verdict also casting doubt on Barr's testimony.
Dunn July 29 reports John Forhan a young farmers son returning from Tralee with three laborers was shot dead near Listowel Kerry by two disguised men who fled through a wood. In Cork Glenmakule farmer McAuliffe and laborer Ruare were approached by a man in a white cloth who shot Ruare after a name dispute. He died an hour later. the killer escaped.
In Northwest France a fierce storm caused significant destruction with many fishermen drowned and the Duke of Gramont's yacht foundering near Quetteville. Other news includes Clatlen's release on recognizance, Baldwin leaping from 1000 feet to land safely before large Alexandria Palace crowds, Yomood Turcomans rising in Persia, Italian ambassador Menabrea noting Italy’s possession of Massonari, Emperor William’s travel plans, and Russia imposing duties at Siberian Pacific ports on various beverages. The Greek King arrived, and royal yacht Dannebrog set sail toward William’s entry point with the Danish squadron.
Saratoga July 29 report details a severe accident in the steeplechase. Henry J. Morris, riding Warrington the favorite, was dragged and injured after the horse fell at the first hedge. He suffered internal injuries, a broken arm, and facial bleeding. by 10 p.m. he remained unconscious. Morris, a famed Philadelphia rider, was praised for his bravado and popularity. Races results note Yum-Yum won the first race. Los Angeles and Bella B. led the Alabama stakes. Dad won the third. Queen of Trumps led the two-year-olds. Beechmore captured the final steeplechase. Morris’s condition improved little by early morning reports.
Prrrsavura reports a new company formed in the city with a 1,000,000 dollar capital to open a tin mine in Mexico near Derango. A ten miles square land tract has been bought. An assay says ore yields 26 to 35 percent tin, claimed as the world’s largest. It is expected English production of 24,000,000 last year will be shut out once works begin.
A riot between union and non union brick makers at Ashland avenue and Thirty ninth street in Curcaco left two men dead from gunfire. Police report ongoing investigations as witnesses are questioned. Community leaders call for calm amid tensions in the brick yard district.
The Norwegian bark Thor of 345 tons, en route from Liverpool to Halifax, struck Bull Rock in thick weather and after backing off dashed on Flying Point Reef at Musquodabout Harbor. A total wreck, crew escaped in boats to land. Cargo of salt insured and destined for William Chisholm of Halifax.
In New York on July 29 the Castle Garden investigating panel heard Paul Wolff a Washington correspondent for the New York Staats Zeitung. He testified that German societies, notably in Munich, export convicts to the United States and cited 1884 figures. Leopold of Bavaria is honorary president of the society. Vincenzo Zurlo, an Italian newcomer, described posters promising high wages and a handler Bartoni who charged four dollars for jobs. Zurlo earned ten cents daily farming in Italy and has not worked since arriving last April living on charity.
Despatch from Winnipeg announces Premier Greenway has arranged with the Northern Pacific to run a railway system in Manitoba. The agreement reportedly furnishes more aid than the $25,000 per mile guarantee, with assistance totaling $6500 per mile. A social session of the Manitoba Legislature will be called immediately.
Among the steamer Etruria passengers from Liverpool were Cornelius Vanderbilt and family Mr Strauss minister to Turkey Michael P Grace and Tony Pastor. Daniel Smith died at Rhode Island Hospital after steam pipe burns at Locomotive Works. John F Gage of Hopkinton NH died by suicide Saturday afternoon. he was a noted band musician and music teacher.

In Cuiiac o Ill on July 29 Chair men Hoge and Murphy waived examination in the Burlington dynamite conspiracy case and bail remained as before. The informers Kelly and McGilvary also waived and stayed on their bonds. Frank Chepak and Frank Chleboun disappeared, with Hronek jailed for lack of bail. Bonds for Chepak and Chleboun set at 5000 each. Hronek held. Forfeiture declared, 48 hours to reinstate bonds granted.
Professor F W Putnam of Harvard lectured at Greenfield on The Ancient Peoples of the Ohio Valley detailing 10000 years of habitation by short headed and long headed tribes. Charts and photographs illustrated mound builders, cremations, and earthwork forts with ancient artifacts including 60000 pearls. Warner closing session read an essay on Shelley.
Worcester July 29 Mrs. Fred Price was found dead in her house tonight with the husband missing. An investigation indicates death by hemorrhage.
A Pittsfield despatch says John De Varennes East Lee paper mill burned likely to the ground at 10 pm. Mill employed 150, wooden structure, fully stocked, loss about 100000. Fire department responded. telegraph and telephone cut off. insurance expected. Other fires include Bedford elevator and grist mill loss 40000, Richardson's mill 5000, a Scituate cottage 2000 house and 500 furniture, Edison works foundry 32000, and a Western avenue dwelling 25 damage.
