Miss Mary Frances Feely of Everett risked her life in a surf rescue off Bayside Nantasket Beach to save her uncle Edward J. Tansey. Tansey was brought ashore and pronounced dead after hours of efforts by Dr. C P Sylvester.
Edward J. Tansey of Charlestown and his niece entered the surf near Bayside around 1 PM. The undertow pulled them into deep water. Tansey struggled while his niece clung to him. Edward Murphy swam to help, keeping the woman afloat and restraining Tansey’s body until a canoist brought all three to shore. Tansey, 9% years old and unmarried, owned a Charlestown liquor store and worked with John Feely & Co.
The mayor proclaims a new title after securing a maid for the summer in Fal mouth. He bets she will stay at least through the season, noting several Charleston-like attempts failed before his success. He spoke to the Post by phone, delighted with the result and ready for a moonlight bay dip.
Boston Elevated officials may face a fresh hitch in settlement talks over arbitrators for striking carmen. Without a receding position from the Elevated on arbitration the peace talks stall and another conference before the Governor and Mayor may be needed. John J. Bright, longtime railroad man and large stockholder, commented last night.
Heavily invested in the road, a stockholder vows to attend the meeting to press his views. Strikers insist the fifth clause of the peace agreement, ratified Saturday, provides for an arbitration board with the organization selecting one party, while Bancroft says the wording substitutes employees. The executive committee warns breaking the agreement could lead to embarrassing events. Governor Foss and Mayor Fitzgerald were present when the pact was declared mutual.

Captain Einar Mikkelsen and engineer Iver sen, Danish Arctic explorers, spent over two years in Greenland before rescue on July 17 by a Norwegian fishing vessel off the coast. They appeared like wild animals to their rescuers upon discovery near Christiania Norway on July 28.
After spending winter at Bass Rock Island a Canadian-Norwegian fishing party discovers a camp. Fishermen knock, Mikkelsen and Iversen rush out nearly naked with guns, having endured illness and a 100 mile sledge trek. They had ammunition to hunt for food.
Common Pleas Judge E. B. Dillon of Columbus Republican nominee for governor says he cannot reconcile party factions and will decline the nomination. He will present his withdrawal to the Republican State central committee meeting here next Wednesday.
In the St. Lawrence estuary the Canadian Pacific Railway steamship Empress of Britain collided with the collier Helvetia in dense fog. The Helvetia sank, its crew rescued, and the Empress of Britain returned to Quebec after sustaining heavy damage.
The Empress of Britain leaving Quebec with 730 passengers collided with the Helvetia about 10 miles west of Fame Point. The Helvetia sank quickly while the liner sustained bow damage but rescued all aboard. The Pretorian and Lord Strathcona aided, with transfers to the Pretorian.
New York July 28 A general alarm was sent out by police for Dr Clifton Gardner 27 staff physician at the Post Graduate Hospital who disappeared last Tuesday afternoon He is a Penn graduate class of 1911 and has been with the hospital ten months He is a native of South Swansea Massachusetts Hospital authorities and police seek to contact his relatives.
Louis Dion of the city was shot by two boy classmates while en route to the hospital. Dion clutched a self written death warrant as he died. The two youths are held without bail as investigators examine a startling letter and witness accounts.

Charles L Holt manager of the National Biscuit Company his wife Gertrude Holt a singer and Arthur Holt were severely injured when their car collided with a motorcycle driven by Daniel H O Riorden of Charlestown. O Riorden fled but was captured after a chase by Frank P Larkin the Holt chauffeur who sustained facial contusions. Special Officer Charles T Southwick reported.
