School Committeeman Corcoran declares publicly that if elected, he will support Dr. Dyer only as long as the mayor’s convenience or political needs allow. He warns Dyer that relying on mayoral backing may be unwise beyond that point.
Unexpected opposition arose yesterday as Dr. Franklin B. Dyer of Cincinnati was chosen as Boston public schools superintendent at a $10,000 yearly salary. Four school committee members met in secret over an hour at the Board building on Mason street to finalize the action as required by law.
After the conference a strained board proved divided on Dr. Dyer as Committeeman Corcoran dissented voting for Augustine L. Rafter amid unexpected opposition. The row prompted comment in school circles and a hint of ensuing debate.
London July 26 Kid McCoy the former American boxer was arrested on an extradition warrant for complicity in a jewel theft from a German princess in Ostend. He is held at Bow Street awaiting a Belgian police official. He claimed no knowledge of the crime. Remanded without bail, extradition pending.
Chauncey Olcott the actor files suit for annulment of his marriage to his first wife Mrs. Cora Striker Moran Olcott. The case links to property titles and appears in Albany Supreme Court.
Two motor boats were burned to the water’s edge off Milk Island near Thatcher's. A small boat with unknown occupants caught fire and sank while being towed by a second boat that also caught fire. Both craft ashore. no information on occupants or injuries due to no contact with Thatcher's or Milk Island.
Road recognizes union. Sherman Gray, charged in Naomi Mitchells murder, was seen for the first time since Wednesday night. Details continue on page 2 Fifth Column.
Under a peace pact the strike terms include return to work without discrimination and union membership protection. Decisions on reinstatement and discipline will use a two person employee and Elevated official committee with the Mayor as third if needed. fare-collection failures excluded. A mass meeting at Faneuil Hall tonight will ratify the settlement with a board recommendation due Monday.

Governor Foss stood before the Elevated representatives with fist raised and chin out as he declared that he has much at stake in the company. He asserted the men are right and urged officials to give way. Officials asked for time until four o clock to respond and agreed to the strikers last terms.
