The Pearson syndicate dream of American railway empire collapses as Kuhn Loeb & Co. seizes their railroad holdings. Dr. Pearson rose from Medford baggage agent to Wall Street financier before overreaching into high finance, ending in a dramatic defeat.
Patrolman James A. Long of Malden was rescued after a pitched battle with a gang in Suffolk square. He arrested the alleged leader, 17 year old Rollo Murray of Everett, as residents joined the fray to protect the officer and drive off the assailants.
Samuel Sargeant also known as George Munroe is charged by Judge Sullivan with tunnelling underground through three cellars to rob Hyman Slessenger’s Dover street pawn shop. The raid yielded 125 in cash and 200 in clothing. He was held under 1200 until Superior Court.

Napoleon J. Rivet was executed this morning at Charlestown State prison for the murder of Joseph Gail loux. The execution occurred at 12:21 with 16 witnesses present including Dr. Charles C. Foster Dr. George B. Magrath Dr. Joseph I. McLaughlin Warden Benjamin F. Bridges Sheriff J A Fairbairn Deputy Sheriff M D Allen Rev Father A D Malley and Associated Press photographer William Carroll Hill among others.
The condemned man Rivet was executed at 12 21 a m after a 43 second electric current peaking at 1920 volts and eight to nine amperes. Father Malley remained with him from 6 o clock, the prison scene showing the crucifix, kiss of faith, and Rivet entering the chair in a white outing shirt and striped trousers.
Massachusetts secures third place in the final race against St. Lawrence. Worcester of the New England league climbs to second place. Wolgast may meet McFarland in New Orleans this fall.

Wareham July 28 Andrew Hoskins saved his seven year old granddaughter from an oncoming car but was hurled 10 feet by the impact. He lies near death at his Marion home three miles away with severe injuries from the crash.
Haskins and his granddaughter rode an electric car at a high school turnout when the girl jumped into the path of George Ryder’s car. Haskins pushed the child to safety but was struck, thrown ten feet, and severely injured. He died at home after being treated at Dr Gleason’s office.
Notices posted at the Bos ton Rubber Shoe Company plants in Malden and Melrose announce that 28 laid off workers will receive a weekly allowance for 20 weeks for younger men, with no specified end for older men. High rubber prices and strong demand drive layoffs and cost increases cited by G A Andrews & Co, while officials at United States Rubber Co in Boston offered no confirmation.
Fire at a hotel operated by Herbert Merrill in South Harpswell Maine forced guests to flee with scant belongings. The nearby Herbert Pinkham house and three other dwellings burned or were damaged, but no lives were lost and injuries were minimal. Estimated total loss about 5000 dollars.
Utica July 28 Theodore Douglas Robinson nephew of former president Roosevelt saw his bid for the Republican nomination in the Oneida Herkimer district fall short in the Herkimer county primaries. Returns show Robinson defeated by the regular Republican organization with about 20 of 66 delegates pledged to him.
W A Magner, 18, swam from Pemberton to Peddock's Island in eight minutes and thirty seconds as the incoming tide rose. He entered at 10 12 yesterday morning and reached the island in that time. Walter Cobb earlier did thirteen minutes. Rose Pitnof completed the trip and return in seventeen during low tide.

Quebec reports wireless messages about Crippen aboard the Montrose inbound 200 miles east at 7:31 p m. A second message to Inspector Dow sought permit from immigration and marine authorities for Dow to land at Father Point, which was granted.
