Talking Shutdown At Boston Manufacturing Group
WALTHAM July 28 At a directors meeting of the Boston Manufacturing Company and the Walttham Bleachery and Dye Works a vote delayed any shutdown to Monday. If suspended, mills may operate one week then close the next, repeating past pattern. The two concerns employ over 3000 people with 65000 spindles across five mill buildings on the Charles River. Capacity is 100000 yards of cloth daily and 150000 dozen underwear pieces, begun ten years ago. Green's watch department at the American factory will not start Aug 7, affecting about sixty workers and more jobs along the 18-size line.
