Muss Minnie Eva Moore, 16, lives with her widow mother in Syracuse. She filed suit against William P. Sabey, a prominent hat merchant and widower, seeking 50000 in damages for breach of promise. She claims four years of attentions and that a Sept 11, 1584 wedding was arranged but never took place. Sabey denies any promise and says he does not understand the suit.
A Colorado Springs despatch reports a catastrophic cloud burst near Denver injuring and killing campers. Bridges and track washed away, and the Eaton homestead was swept downstream with Mrs Eaton reportedly perishing when the house struck a railroad bridge. Thousands faced flash flooding and tents floated away in the swift river.
In Columbus Ohio a former Ohio State University student Albert Niswanger killed his wife Amber Shoemaker with a poker at her mother's home after a divorce request. He then fatally cut his own throat, leaving a note claiming he died for love as both spouses lie in critical condition.
Gustav Hall and two young women were ambushed on Kingsbury street as two attackers choked Hall and robbed him of 25 dollars and two watches. The assailants, identified by the victims, were James Sheran alias Dirty Eddie and Martin Barrett, who were later arrested on Ontario street.

George L Hast ings of North Hinsdale New Hampshire about 40 was found dead in the road between Hinsdale and Brattleboro just before 1 am by a neighbor who failed to notice the body until his team ran over it. It is believed Hastings fell between his horses and was kicked to death, the team located some distance from the body.
Wellylee July 26 reports two arrivals adding 70 barrels to a weekly total of 1900 barrels of mackerel at the port. Bay of Fundy weather was favorable and large schools were sighted off Cape Cod. Gloucester and Portland seiners were seen and all were doing well with prospects for strong catches.

A San Antonio dispatch reports Missouri Pacific railroad officials ordered immediate construction of a south connection on their main line in Galveston with the San Antonio Indeep? Pass railroad. Work began this morning.
Gen Horace Porter and Japanese Minister Kuki arrived at Mt McGregor to oversee private guard duties for Gen Grant remains. Yankee flags and eight guards from G A R helped secure the cottage while a Fort Porter infantry unit supported the honor guard. Porter will deliver Grant’s last headquarters flag to New York and arrange final obsequies with Mayor Grace and Gen Hancock.
