A nine year old, Lester Warren, fell from a roof while flying a kite at 63 Williams Street Roxbury injuring his skull and arm with internal injuries. He was taken to City Hospital after rescue efforts by bystanders and a doctor.
Kenneth H. Moores, 14, was struck in the head by a stray 22 caliber bullet while near the Malden Auditorium on Pleasant Street. The bullet likely came from a rifle fired by boys on the marsh. it lodged in his face and was removed by Dr. F. W. Plummer. The injury was not serious.
A historical note claims Horsford’s Acid Phosphate stimulates the liver, relieves constipation, headaches, and malaria symptoms, presenting it as a healing tonic with broad claims.
In Rockland Maine a northeast wind and ebb tide drove the 63 ton schooner Diadem of Rockport onto Ash Island rocks near Whitehead at 8 20 p m. Four crewmen jumped into a boat and reached Seal Harbor with no personal belongings saved. Bound from Boston to Rockport with a cement cargo, the 1855 Essex built vessel lies submerged with no insurance. Captain Maddox commanded. It is unlikely the vessel will be raised.

Lowell officials plan a grand jury inquiry into bribery claims tied to a 1000 bribe offer to Alderman William Hayes by an agent of New England Telephone and Telegraph. Hayes says he may name the bribe giver as he defends his vote amid earlier support for the franchise.

A White head torpedo fired from the dock at the torpedo station sank a boat carrying four seamen gunners who were watching practice. A lifeboat from the torpedo boat Vesuvius rescued the men as the uncharged torpedo, driven by compressed air, pierced the hull at about 300 yards. The boatmen were positioned on the range line to collect spent torpedoes and misfortune placed them in the torpedo path.
Boston police captured Martin F. Warren a noted yegg from New York and three alleged footpads in a citywide crackdown. Warren, 30, linked to an April 28 robbery of Timothy J. Glancey for 2 75, faces charges along with Henry Champney 30, for a $250 gold watch theft. Also arrested are George Carter 21 and Frank McCarthy 19 for a July 19 Charles Street Common holdup of Wolf Baker worth 15.
Five thousand picketers massed at Weld street car barns in the North End seeking action after a night of clashes. Cars were kept off New Bedford lines by officials and police, with reserves deployed at key points. A dispute with Mayor Thompson led to a temporary pullback, later patched, and the city considers hiring police reserves for the street railway. A special city council session was planned as President Crapo signals further action.
