A local ad advertises suits at cut rates and slashed prices on trousers. It notes $18, $20 and $22 suits now selling for $12 and $15 suits for $12, with trousers priced at $5 or $3 respectively. Straw hats are offered at half price.
Boston Mayor N. Matthews urges the Boston Gas Commission to force Charlestown Gaslight to cut gas prices for Charlestown and Somerville residents. He asks for a full inspection of the company’s gas assessments and returns, noting prior discontent among local consumers. The letter was sent to Beacon Street, with no action yet.
In Portland Maine July 25 the U S Circuit Court of Appeals heard David Tenderson the Chicago theatrical manager seek to stop Eugene Tompkins of the Boston Theatre from using the topical song I Wonder if Dreams Come True in Babes in the Wood. A P Browne and L W Scaife appeared for parties with decision reserved.
Nan Marsh, 40, is jailed after an assault on broker John L. Randall, 58, at 302 Washington street. Randall, struck during a dispute over Miss Julia Jordan, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Marsh claims self defense. Witnesses describe a heavy fall with no prior scuffle. Marsh remained at the scene until police arrived.
John G Marsh was arraigned in the Municipal Court on an assault charge against John L Randall. Marsh pleaded not guilty, bail set at 5000, case continued to August 2. Marsh claimed self defense and said he acted after indignation over Randall's conduct to a young woman in Marsh’s employ.
Randall, injured, showed signs of improvement at Massachusetts General Hospital after a tense night. He awoke, drank, and ate with aid, talked with his wife for about 30 minutes, then slept. Doctors say initial skull fracture is unlikely and recovery chances are excellent, with the main concern being nervous system shock.
An unknown man was run over and killed by Con ductor Bickford's train near Davis crossing in New Durham New Hampshire. Authorities believe foul play may be involved and that the victim was laid on the track by an unidentified person. The remains were brought to Alton and placed with Undertaker Evans.
John Jacob Astor with seven guests reaches Bar Harbor Me after a Newport to Bar Harbor run in twenty three hours aboard the Nour Mahal brig rigged steam yacht. Astor lands in an electric launch the Corceveau first seen there. He plans a ten day stay as Belgian minister M Le Ghant hosts a picnic in their honor. Yacht Mayflower also arrives.
Palmer July 2 A Stafford Springs wife Mrs Edward Welch dies after sustained abuse by her husband. Neighbors report cruelty including neglect of food and medicine, exposure to cold, and an axe incident. Welch, jailed for 30 days in Tolland, faces further charges after her death. Funeral held today.
The Maharajah of Kapurthala arrives in Newport with his wife and retinue, greeted by crowds on Commercial wharf and ferried to the Ocean House. Massy and guards prepare the royal suite, with Newport's nabob atmosphere buzzing around Bellevue avenue as the Rajah plans a multi-city tour including Boston and Saratoga.

Frank Bruin aged 25 of 149 Endicott street suffered severe burns when a gas explosion occurred while he was repairing gas pipes in a ditch at the corner of West Chester park and Huntingdon avenue yesterday afternoon. He was rushed to City Hospital.
