London reports the Russian army on the eastern front in full retreat, destroying supplies to deny them to German and Austrian forces. Premier Kerensky vows iron discipline against seditious troops in East Galicia as Petrograd admits disarray and Berlin calls it a rout.
From the wooded Carpathians to Tarnopol the Russian army, under General Korniloff, is in disorderly retreat with heavy losses in men, guns and stores, and few efforts to hold back the advancing enemy.
About 350 of 500 Boston Revere Lynn ferry line workers from engineers to deckhands met at the Comique Theatre Lynn to demand 60 cents daily wage, time and one eighth overtime, and an eight hour day instead of ten. They agreed to present the scale today and threaten a strike within 30 days if rejected.
Washington reports that the defense council’s lumber committee says 160 million feet, about 60 percent of the lumber needed for 16 army cantonments, has already been shipped to prevent delays in field construction.

Hurley and Colby to sit without vote until confirmed.
Three Russian sailors caused a disturbance near Tremont Street and Columbus Avenue. One, Ivan Zezzeo, was arrested after colliding with Patrolman Winn’s nightstick. another sailor escaped during the struggle while the alleged aggressor was headed to rescue a comrade.
Washington July 24 A bill to return aliens of draft age to their home countries is being drawn by Chairman Webb of the House judiciary committee who said he had talked to administration officials and hoped for administration support for the proposal.
Washington, July 24. A partisan clash over the administration food control bill caused a stall in the House. Republican Leader Mann blocked unanimous consent to conference unless a separate vote on a war expenditures committee was allowed. Democrats paused to gauge support and adjourned.
Both parties have summoned full memberships for the upcoming session as a partisan split on the vote appears likely. With conference unlikely under unanimous consent, administration managers plan to invoke a special rule to push ahead.

Mrs. Clarence R Edwards wife of Brigadier General Edwards traveled with her daughter Miss Bessie and friend Mrs Larz Anderson to the Ayer cantonment area to view grounds near Robins Pond for a potential soldiers club plan. She spoke last night at her Beacon Street home in a family interview.
