In San Francisco the Jeffries and Fitzsimmons camps end training and anticipate a close battle tomorrow night. Jeffries weighs near 217 pounds and Fitzsimmons around 165, with Jeffries favored by many observers though betting remains sparse amid rumor of fake wagers.

Tim Hurst predicts a swift finish for Jeffries in the McGovern versus Young Corbett bout on August 29 at New London Conn. He says Fitzsimmons cannot match Jeffries, warns against carrying the fight, and claims Jeffries will end it within ten rounds if the bout is aggressively pressed.
