Receivers propose sale of Butler assets with terms offered

The offer sets 50 percent of net cost plus 22500, with cost between 425000 and 500000 and cost one third under retail. Receivers estimate assets at 765000 with 450000 in merchandise and liabilities at 860000. Connor excludes Gilchrist claims, seeks to assume leases and contracts, and aims to close by August 15 with a hearing set by Judge Dodge.

Horse Attaches to Waltham Streetcar in Dash to Ride

A horse tethered to a tipcart tried to board an outward bound Watertown streetcar on Arsenal Street while John Sheehan a city worker cleaned the street. The animal nearly toppled the car and a passenger panic ensued before the horse, badly injured, was shot. Motorman Arthur Griggs attempted emergency stops as the horse placed its front hooves on the running board.

Manuel F. Oliver's power boat reached the burning Ship owned by Clarence V. Barron as 650 gallons of gasoline fueled a blaze off Green Hill en route to Pemberton. Jenny Johnson and Sarah Blanchard were burned while transferring to the rescue launch. all 26 passengers were saved and brought to Cohasset as onlookers gathered at Stony Beach.

Fire drives six from lodging house in Charlestown

A late night blaze at Mrs. Alonzo Hodgkins lodging house at 37 Harvard square Charlestown forced six occupants to flee in night garments. Edward A Hodgkins woke to smoke and guided lodgers outside. Mrs Hodgkins saved a parrot. Damage estimated at 1200 dollars. The cause remains undetermined.

Lawyer in Crippen Case Is Sentenced to Three Years

Arthur Newton, the lawyer who rose to prominence in Dr Crippen's murder trial, received a three year term of penal servitude at the Old Bailey. He was convicted of conspiring to defraud Dr Hans Thorsch, a Vienna financier, of 115000 dollars in 1911 and 1912. His accomplice Berkley Bernard Bennett drew 18 months hard labor.
