Shroud Wedding Clothes Ends in Double Suicide
Middletown New York July 23 Edward D Crane and his wife were found dead in their home in each other's arms wearing their wedding clothes. Two glasses with poison and notes to coroner James H Harding explain they chose to die together rather than reveal poverty or be separated. Crane, once a printer, was left mentally impaired by typhoid. Their children died of diphtheria recently, worsening Mrs Crane's decline. She sought work as a hairdresser but lost it. She left a letter blaming lack of true friends and detailing body disposition, saying both were in their right minds when planning the act to avoid becoming public charges.
