Palmer July 23. Charles G. Fields, a presumed Negro from the California Coast, is arrested after a Wednesday assault on S Wilson Lawrence. Fields claims self defense saying Lawrence attacked him with a pitchfork then chased him. a rock was used in defense and Fields was wounded. Lawrence is improving. locals doubt Fields acted as initial aggressor.
