Chains Son to a Bed in Quincy Case of Assault
Charles E Boothby, a Quincy lineman, is jailed on assault charges after tying his 8 year old son Charles to a bed with a heavy brass chain and lead ball at 7 this morning. The boy escaped from a second story window onto the porch roof and was found bleeding from chain marks by neighbors and a truant officer. Boothby says the punishment was to keep the boy at home and teach him a lesson, claiming he did not intend to injure. The case drew police and officials into questioning his disciplinary methods.
