French aviator Herbert Latham attempted to cross the English Channel in a monoplane but the craft fell 500 feet into the sea. He was rescued unharmed by the Harpon torpedo boat and planned to try again after repairs.
Democratic Chairman James Donovan met with banker James J. Storrow at Storrow’s Lincoln home for a private conference after a late Boston visit. They did not speak to reporters, but observers ponder whether talk covered Boston mayoralty plans or a city lighting contract.

Coroner Davis traced his identity to Harry Hobbs, son of wealthy Dorchester, Massachusetts businessman John Hobbs. The elder Hobbs was notified by telegraph and ordered burial and full death particulars sent.
Mary Dalton, 15, was accidentally shot in the right eye while playing outside her home at 16 Linnean Street North Cambridge. A rifle reportedly discharged by boys across the street, who fled, led to her mother summoning Dr. H. O. Lacy to remove the bullet.
The Democratic congressional committee, meeting early, re elected James F. Lloyd as chairman and named Lincoln Dixon David E. Finley A Mitchell Palmer and J J Sinnott to key posts. They outlined a campaign plan to win a Democratic House and said the fight would be the most stubborn in history.

He says Sutton fired with two revolvers before Adams did not attempt to disarm him and suggests Sutton shot himself. President Taft will lead the tariff conference at a White House meeting to complete the bill except for some raw materials. The final adjustment of duties on oil coal lumber hides and lead bullion is expected to require compromises to secure passage.
