Lawrence Nelson Jr an escaped lunatic returned to a West Abington farm and fired four shots at Desire Vanderpool killing him. He then walked away with the revolver and asked two youths to drive him to Brockton police station.
The report details Nelson, a farm hand, who allegedly attacked while working, claiming a better job caused him to quit Vanderpool farm after three days. He may have escaped an asylum in Concord New Hampshire and lists Nashua NH as home.
Washington reports the tariff bill is close to completion after a lengthy debate among political, local and commercial interests. The conference committee plans to finish its report this week and observers expect adoption by both houses and submission to President Taft early next week.
A 40-foot cruiser Kitcinque of Crescent Athletic Club and New York Motor Boat Club caught fire near Vineyard Sound lightship during a long distance race from New York to Marblehead. All six crewmen were saved after three jumped overboard and floated for two hours until rescued by the schooner D. J. Sawyer and the small tender that helped them.
The six men landed at Oak Bluffs after leaving New England for New York. Crew included Captain Walter N. Bleling, Frank D. Green owner, Co. F. Chapman, Fred Thurber, M. M. Whitaker, and designer Greenough. Bieling Chapman and Thurber were forced into the water. Thurber was nearly unconscious when rescued. The 14 motor boats, led by Kitcinque, departed New York before 11 am for Marblehead in a Crescent Athletic Club race for Commodore Wilson’s cup, running south of Long Island in a sea favorable to sea-going design and speed.
Former Mayor John F. Fitzgerald departs Boston today for New York and Europe in an eight wide trip to bring his two daughters home from Belgium after a year abroad. Mrs. Fitzgerald remains in Boston while he sails on the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse this Wednesday.
A basement fire at 19 Morton street gutted one building and damaged two others at 17 and 21 Morton street in a North End tenement district. Brave rescues saved about 50 residents trapped in the three houses as flames spread rapidly through the structures.
A building fire saw several jump to escape the flames and three injured. Charlestown residents B S Driscoll and Charles Sweeney formed a life net from the street while Hoseman Thomas Doherty used a top floor window plan to rescue two men. Police and a reserve officer saved many women and a baby. State police will investigate the fast spreading blaze.

Ten persons drown when the excursion sloop Roxana carrying 22 passengers capsizes in lower New York bay between Coney Island Point and Hoffman Island. The captain and 12 survivors were rescued as a squall struck, with authorities continuing inquiries.
Mrs. Joseph Lancaster of Boston is aboard the White Star liner Baltic with a man identified as Count Costarelli, in a plot she and her husband fear centers on a divorce and a fortune. Lancaster pursues the couple from New York as Captain Ransom and family seek to deter the scheme.
Society pages buzz over a sensational elopement story as Mrs. Lancaster reportedly left Boston for Lake Mohonk with Count Costarelli and then sailed across the Atlantic aboard the Baltic. Relatives insist Mrs. Lancaster remains with their mother at Lake Mohonk despite newspaper reports.
Utica NY July 18 C Will Chapell of Oneida president of the National Casket Company was killed in a car accident on the road to Syracuse two miles from Canasteeta. His wife and two sisters in law were seriously injured. Chapell swerved to avoid a team, struck a telegraph pole, and died at once.
