Subway Merger Bill Wins In House
The two subway merger bills were moved to a third reading after a sharp fight. Proponents led by Martin Lomasney defended the measures against amendments including a nine hour limit for elevated workers and an abolition of East Boston tunnel tolls. The Conway amendment failed 29 to 99. toll amendment failed 24 to 80. Bills then advanced toward governor signature with engrossing and prorogation planned.
