American forces hold all other parts of the large battlefield while the east of Rheims reports small enemy gains. United States troops capture several villages as hopes of progress rise with continuing operations.
Allied forces on the Marne push back a small German thrust west of us between Vaux and Hill 204. The enemy launched bombardments and attempted counterattacks but suffered losses as American troops increased prisoners and pressed gains. Only south of the Bois des Roches did the Germans hold briefly.
Berlin reports violent Marne counterattacks with local gains southwest of Rheims. The Marne crossing reaches the south bank for about 12 miles from Gland to Mereuil le Port, widening a wedge between American and French lines near Chatéau Thierry amid heavy German losses.
