Brave officer saves children halting runaway horse

Reserve Officer John Worsdale of part of division 119 repelled danger at Mozart and Amory streets Thursday evening. A horse and wagon roared toward a group of about 20 children as a citizen was knocked down attempting to stop the animal. Worsdale yelled for the kids to flee, leapt into the street, halted the runaway by grabbing the rein, then steered the horse into gas pipes, ending the peril with the horse injured and the crowd safe.

Kiss From a Kissing Bug Heals by Ham Fat Remedy

A Boston woman bitten by a kissing bug used ham fat as described in the Post to treat the bite. The swelling subsided after a poultice by Dr. A G Wells, who endorsed the remedy and applied a second poultice that produced the cure.

Freight Agent Swindle Suspect Arrested by Dorchester Police

A man calling himself William A. Conway 45 claimed residence on Hunneman street was arrested by Dorchester officers for a freight agent scam. He allegedly visited homes claiming a bundle at the freight house due for 6 cents. victim Mrs. David Hill 1484 Dorchester Avenue identified him. She traced him after he visited her home and paid money. court appearance scheduled.

Rev Dr Johnson Found Guilty In Vermont Methodist Case

The board of triers of the Methodist Church unanimously sustained the Vermont Conference verdict finding Rev. C. Johnson, pastor of Northfield Methodist Church, guilty of using dishonest methods to pass exams for conference entry. An appeal to the general conference is expected.

Funeral of William H. Pearce Held in Cambridge

The funeral for William H. Pearce was held at 39 Walden Street Cambridge yesterday afternoon with Rev. A C Swain officiating. The Richardson Young Men’s Alliance of the North Avenue Congregational Church organized the service in which Pearce participated. Relatives from Mt. Vernon New York including Howard N. Glover and the Downs family attended, with floral tributes including a baby’s inscription and a teaching tribute from a friend. Pallbearers were Drew Brigham Neil and Quirk of the R Y M A North Avenue Church. Interment followed in Cambridge.

Willard E Baker Arrives in City to Await Trial

Willard E Baker, charged with embezzlement from Adams Express in Boston in 1897, arrived in the city yesterday with Captain Joseph Dugan and Inspector M. J. Morrissey of the Boston police. He was taken to police headquarters and later sent to the Tombs to await trial. He remarked that he walked away when the officers weren’t looking and regretted not escaping.

Baker’s Escape Mystery After Albany Express Arrival

At Albany express No 10 three men in plain sight left the station unnoticed. Baker appeared unseated and worn while Morrissey and Captain Dugan escorted him to police headquarters. Baker’s escape in San Francisco was alleged by Dugan, but Morrissey blamed no one. The prisoner spoke briefly as the inquiry began.
