James Middleton aged 35 of Church street Canton collapsed from heat while crossing a field beside the Neponset River near the Norwood line. His body was found by local boys as medical aid arrived.

The Weather Bureau reports a hurricane of great proportions moving northwest from Georgetown South Carolina. Winds are increasing in velocity as warnings go out nationwide. The system developed off the South Atlantic coast and moved inland in South Carolina, with fears of considerable damage due to its unusual severity.

Youngster saves girl from death at Winthrop surf

A 14 year old boy, unnamed, saved a girl about his age from drowning near the Cottage Hill raft off Shore Drive opposite Faun Bar Avenue. Spectators cheered as the rescue ended with the girl pulled to safety and revived.

A girl swam alone near Winthrop Shore Drive and Cottage Hill and cried out as she moved toward a raft. A boy on the raft jumped in to assist, and both disappeared beneath the surface. The boy resurfaced after freeing his arms and brought the unconscious girl to the beach.
