Campbellton Fire Devastates Cedar Town and Losses Top 2.5 Million
A massive fire swept Campbellton New Brunswick destroying cedar mills and most of the town. Three major lumber firms Richards Shives and others suffered heavy losses with property valued at about 300000. The blaze raced through town aided by a gale, destroying churches hotels mills and a government building. Dozens of trains were delayed as bridges burned and thousands fled with hundreds sheltered in Dalhousie and along the railway. The fire is the worst in Northern New Brunswick since 1852 Miramichi blaze and 1877 St. John destruction.
