In Greater Boston 100 saloons 229 bottled goods shops and two distilleries have closed under the pressure of the dry law. The Boston licensing board reports 332 licenses not renewed, leaving 659 active licenses of all types compared with 991 in 1918.

Andrew Furuseth, president of the Seamen's Union, said the meeting, amid employer representatives, was not expected to yield definite conclusions. He explained the strike aims to secure first preference in employment for American seamen and second preference for union members.
